Thinking about adopting/getting a Dog or Puppy?
76TAKE US HOME, PLEASE!
Adopting a Dog
There are about 6-8 million dogs and cats brought to animal shelters in just a year, and about 3-4 million are euthanized. Though in most circumstances you have to pay an adoption fee to adopt a dog or a cat. Understandable, the fee you pay covers the vet bills and the spaying or neutering that your pet received or will be receiving. So when thinking about it, it is a very reasonable price.
So why not check out your local shelters? Or better yet, you interested in a specific breed and you feel you won't find what you are looking for. Well I got better news, there are many rescue organizations just about everywhere. Some specialize in specific breeds. Like the Greyhound for instance, most Greyhound Rescues rescue dogs that were once racing dogs. Once the dog gets a certain age or injured, they are given up.
There is probably a rescue organization for just about every breed of dog, but if your not picky then why not give your local animal shelter a chance. You might be surprised by how many beautiful and loving dogs there are. And you might just pass up your chance of a new best friend.
Pet Finder
The best website to search for dogs and other animals in need of a home is Petfinder.com.
It has almost every animal shelter and rescue organization imaginable.
All the pictures I provided on this hub are dogs and puppies in need of homes at this very moment.
Too Many Dogs Already?
Some pet owners may say, "I want to help, but I already have too many dogs!"
Maybe you already have enough dogs and animals living with you. That is great! Hopefully you can still help these animals on finding a new home, but how?
The answer is TALKING ABOUT IT! Pass the word around to other people who are interested in adding a pet to their family. Include the option of finding specific dog breed rescuers. There are many dogs that never or rarely get to experience what it is like to have a family who loves them.

A million thanks to you for writing this hub!!! And what a great idea for you to keep updating it with new pictures! The homeless pet epidemic in this country is horrific and I try to do my best with spreading the word about adoption as well. Like you said, everyone needs to spread the word! Thank you again : )
Great hub. I'm in the market and will most likely get a shelter dog.

Adopting a pet is the honorable thing to do whether you want a small dog or a large dog. You will understand once you rescue your new pal!
